Welcome to Matts Mutts Dog Training

Is every walk leaving you stressed, embarrassed and wondering if it'll ever get better?

If your dog barks, lunges or reacts to every dog they see, you're not alone. I help owners turn stressful, unpredictable walks into calm, enjoyable ones through a proven training programme built specifically for reactive dogs.

SAMMY - Doberman

Helen and Barney (Cocker Spaniel)

Does This Sound Familiar?

Every walk feels exhausting.

You're constantly scanning ahead looking for other dogs

You avoid certain places because you know your dog will react.

Walks leave you embarrassed and frustrated.

You've already tried trainers, YouTube videos or endless treats.

You're beginning to wonder if your dog will ever change.

"If you're nodding your head, you're exactly the type of owner I help."

Imagine if instead...

Walking became enjoyable again.

Passing other dogs no longer filled you with anxiety.

Your dog listened around distractions.

You trusted your dog with more freedom.

You looked forward to walks instead of dreading them.

TOBY – Labrador

“I never thought I’d enjoy relaxed walks with Toby, never mind watch him safely running off lead. It’s hard to believe he’s the same dog.”

Jack and Otis (Cockapoo)

“Without Matt I genuinely don't think we'd still have Otis. No resource guarding, no bites and a completely different dog.”

Mark and Maisie (Border Collie)

“After trying various trainers, Matt finally gave us the tools. Walks are easier, she's happier and finally living life off lead.”

Sam and Bruno (Rottweiler)

“Putting just 10 minutes a day into proper play made more difference than any 10-mile walk ever did.”

Julian and Ember (Dogue de Bordeaux)

“She's now 8½ stone and an absolute dream to walk.”

Britney and Tilly (Labradoodle)

“I used to dread leaving the house with Tilly. Now she’s an absolute pleasure to take out and can finally enjoy her off-lead freedom.”

You've probably been told...

"They're just anxious."

"They'll grow out of it."

"Just keep giving treats."

"Avoid other dogs."

"They just need more socialisation."

"Your only option is medication."

Yet despite following all that advice...

You're still dreading every walk.

You're still avoiding other dogs.

You're still wondering if anything will ever change.

You're still dreading every walk.

You're still avoiding other dogs.

You're still wondering if anything will ever change.

Many of my clients come to me after spending hundreds, sometimes THOUSANDS, on training that never addressed the real reason behind their dog's behaviour.

That's where my approach is different.

Why Your Dog Probably Hasn't Improved Yet

Reactivity is rarely just about what happens when your dog sees another dog.

That's why simply avoiding triggers, distracting them with treats or trying to stop the reaction itself often isn't enough to create lasting change.

To truly improve your dog's behaviour, we need to look at the bigger picture — how they communicate with you, how their needs are being fulfilled, their ability to control their impulses, their engagement with you and how they behave in everyday life.

That's why my training doesn't focus on one technique or a quick fix. We work on the whole dog, giving both you and your dog the skills needed to create lasting change.

Clear Communication

Helping your dog understand exactly what's expected of them.

Appropriate Fulfilment

Giving your dog productive outlets for their natural drives and needs.

Building Engagement

Creating a dog that wants to listen and work with you, even around distractions.

Structure & Boundaries

Building better habits, impulse control and clearer expectations in everyday life.

Real-World Training

Taking what we teach and making sure it actually works where you need it most — out in the real world.

The goal isn't to spend the rest of your dog's life managing their reactivity. It's to create lasting change that gives you both more confidence, more freedom and a better life together.

GUNNER – Labrador

“After one session I could walk Gunner on a loose lead. After two, the barking and lunging had stopped. Matt hasn’t just trained our dog — he’s transformed our lives as a family.”

Faye and Dora (German Shepherd)

“Dora has come on leaps and bounds and she's given me my confidence back.”

Angela and Chavi (Springer Spaniel)

“I finally have the gorgeous, fulfilled Springers I dreamed of.”

Carl and Lenny (American Bulldog)

“It's like we've got our dog back. He's happier, we're happier and our confidence is sky high.”

Claire and Milo (Springer Spaniel)

“Matt helped us give Milo the forever home he deserved.”

June and Rusty (Cockapoo)

“He's completely turned our lives around.”

About Matt

Listen to my story of how I worked through my own dogs reactivity and how I help Northeast dog owners transform reactive dogs into calm, confident companions.

BASIL – Cocker Spaniel

“Walks are now enjoyable for everyone. Basil is off lead, his recall has improved massively and he's far more settled.”

Aiden and Sullivan (Cockapoo)

“After 7–8 months of getting nowhere and spending an eye-watering amount on other trainers, Sullivan made more progress in a few weeks than he had in all those months before. I only wish we'd found Matt sooner.”

Louise and Rudy (Dachshund)

“Rudy bounds over with excitement every time he sees Matt.”

Georgia and Milo (Dachshund)

“Milo's really learning the beauty of doing nothing and having a relaxed walk.”

Tara and Buddy (Rottweiler Cross)

“Five sessions in and the progress has been exponential.”

Veronica and Zuri (German Shepherd)

“I used to dread taking my German Shepherd on walks because of her reactivity. Now we calmly pass other dogs, our walks are enjoyable, and I finally have the confidence to handle any situation.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this work for rescue dogs?

Absolutely. I work with dogs of all backgrounds, including rescue dogs.

Your dog's history is important, but it doesn't have to define their future. I'll assess the dog in front of me, understand what's driving the behaviour and build the training around both you and your dog.

My dog has bitten another dog. Can you still help?

Yes. I regularly work with dogs displaying more serious reactive and aggressive behaviours, including dogs with a bite history.
We'll discuss everything during your initial consultation so I can understand what's happened, the severity of the behaviour and whether my programme is the right fit for you.

I've already tried another trainer. How is this different?

Many of the owners I work with have already tried other trainers, classes or training methods before coming to me.
Rather than focusing solely on stopping your dog from reacting, we look at the bigger picture — communication, fulfilment, structure, engagement and your relationship with your dog.
The goal isn't to spend your life managing your dog's reactivity. It's to create real-world change that gives both you and your dog more freedom.

How quickly will I see progress?

Every dog is different, so I won't promise overnight results.
However, many owners begin noticing changes within the first few sessions. Most of my programmes run over a number of weeks, giving you time to learn the training, implement it at home and build lasting results.
Your results will ultimately depend on your dog, the severity of the behaviour and how consistently the training is followed between sessions.

Do you travel?

I'm based in Concord, Washington and work with owners across the surrounding areas.
For most training, you would travel to me, where we'll work in both controlled and real-world environments depending on what your dog needs.
In certain circumstances, I can also travel to you.

What happens during the consultation?

The consultation is a relaxed, no-obligation conversation where we'll discuss your dog, the problems you're currently experiencing, what you've already tried and what you'd ultimately like life with your dog to look like.

I'll then explain how I work, whether I believe I can help and what I'd recommend as the best next step.
There's no pressure to sign up — it's simply an opportunity to find out whether we're the right fit for each other.

Angela & Toby (Labrador)
